Hey everyone...I'm back! Today, I want to post about Twitter.
 


Now, before I start ranting on, I just want to inform you guys that I do use Twitter…. A lot, and I’m of those people that tend to tweet a lot when they’re bored.

·         Founders : Evan Williams, Biz Stone and jack Dorsey

·         Evan Williams created blogger, which we are using now

·         Google bought it, and Evan was working for Google

·         Evan and a Google employee, Biz Stone, left Google for a new company called Odeo.

·         One of Odeo’s projects was Twitter

·         Stone and Williams bought out Odeo and Twitter and called it Obvious Corporation

·         Jack Dorsey came along, and helped made Twitter into what it is today

·         In March 2006, Twitter split from Obvious Corporation and became its own company: Twitter incorporated.  (How Stuff Work)

Now, Twitter is used by over 200 million people, celebrity and your normal, average joes. It lets you update your “status” in 140 characters and let your followers know what you’re doing when you tweet it. You can follow all sorts of people, and keep in touch with others. Because Twitter has a mobile site and app, smartphones can now use it on the go, or just put in their numbers to receive tweets via-mobile.

Now, there are some issues concerning your privacy when using Twitter:

1.      People know what you are doing, when you’re doing it when you tweet about it.

2.      It’s more open than Facebook, meaning that if someone decided to Google you, you’d probably show up.

3.      Your tweets show up to anyone who is following you, and sometimes, even to people who aren’t following you.

4.      Linking up your Twitter account with your Facebook account, not a good idea.

There are some ways to avoid these disasters:

1.      When tweeting, you don’t have to tweet every 5 seconds letting the whole world know what where you are and what you’re doing at the exact instant. You could tweet at the beginning of each hour, or every 30 minutes for Twitter addicts.

2.      Don’t put all your information out there. Not everyone needs to know what kind of toilet paper you’re using, your address or how many pillows you have in your room.

3.      Change your privacy settings to “Protected” so that if someone decides to follow you, they have to be approved by you. If you decide to hate on someone who has a Twitter account, best way to avoid it, would be not to hate on anyone.

4.      Sometimes, linking two accounts for two very different social networks might not be good idea, unless you want to be hit by a break. Let’s say you linked your Facebook with Twitter, and you were watching a game, or some sort of tv show. Obviously, you’re going to tweet every 5 seconds, which will annoy everyone on Facebook and will result in having your face being hit by a brick. (Avoid Disasters on Twitter)

What ever happened to..

Hello Everyone!
Thanks for reading my blog post last week; I enjoyed all your comments!
Now, I want to ask everyone about something that has been bugging me for hours now....Don't you ever wonder: What ever happened to sites like MySpace and Piczo?
I remember when we were in grade 5, so like 2005, and we had computer time at school, everyone would log into MySpace or Piczo. Now when I was younger, I personally didn't have MySpace, because I knew that it was going to die. I did have like 5 Piczo pages though. Me and my friends would build one whenever we were bored, and post a bunch of posts. But don't you ever wonder about the information that we put up there, about all those biographies that we put in our "About Me" section, or all the pictures that we posted.
What about all those ads that would appear bigger than your own pictures, or the music and videos that would take   F O R E V E R  to load? I know that's one of the reasons we all quit it.
If you want advice on how to handle MySpace information, my advice would be to delete all your information, then delete your page. Even though all your information has been once up there, it's better to have it deleted before anything happens. With Piczo, you should do the same things, if you remember your password, of course, because I know I don't.
From what I heard for MySpace, there were also a lot of undercover cops waiting and watching everyone, kinda like Big Brother would, to make sure that nothing bad or illegal is happening (this is where English at Lajeunesse comes in handy).
Hope you all enjoyed it, even though it was less entertaining then my last post.  Besides, who knows, Facebook might die out and something else will replace it.

Update Status : What's on your mind? Hey everyone ! I'm back to talk to you guys about the dangers of social sites. We all know that there are dangers concerning those sites, and I'm here to speak about one in particular : FACEBOOK.

Facebook is a website created by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004, back he was in Harvard to help him interact with students on campus (NY Times). Now, this social site has reached over 800 million users, from everyone to celebrities, normal people like you and I, and I bet even some of our grandparents have it. But who's to say that this site is safe? Truth is, it isn't. It has to be one of the most dangerous site out there, according to me. There are too many things that make it dangerous, for example :

• With the new layout, stalking is made simple, easy and it's only a click away;
• Even with all the privacy settings, they could still view your info section;
• Any one would be able to view your pictures/videos, which is kinda creepy if it's someone you don't know;
• There are people that can hack into your account, and change a lot of things, add and delete stuff, talk really mean to your friends, etc, etc;
• Any stalker or serial killer could be viewing your page, and if you are an avid facebooker that updates everything every five seconds, that person could know where you are;
• For teens : if you were at a party, and didn't want your parents to know, but someone took a picture of you, tagged you in it and your parents saw it, then you're probably grounded;
• And last but not least: It's a great way to get distracted with all the new news feeds, comments, liking things, secretly hating someone, updating statuses every 5 minutes that you want to punch the person, you know, the usual.

Okay, I'm not going to be a hypocrite and say that I don't use it, cause I have the app on my phone, and I'm constantly checking my new feeds like a mad-man, but there are ways to avoid a lot of dangerous things, like:

• When you go out, don't announce it to the world. You could simply update a status when you come back saying that you had a blast or something. 
• Change the privacy settings on your profile to make it that only your friends, and not friends or friends, could view your pictures.
• Don't post many embarrassing pictures, cause you never know who could be seeing it, for example, a normal stalker, or even worse : your boss and/or parents.
• Make sure that your phone number is hidden, and that if someone wants it, they could message you for it. 
• When accepting someone who's profile picture is a car, and you only have 1 mutual friend, it's better not to accept.  

	Well, hope these tips and advice help.

I have read and agreed to....

Hello Earthlings that are users of the internet....just kidding.

I wanted to speak to everyone about a HUGE issue that mostly everyone does.

One of the biggest thing that everyone does would be clicking the button that says : I have read and agreed to the ... or the terms to. We all know that we havent’t read them, and we all know that we don’t care about them.....So why do they (they being the software designs) put that box? I read online that a survey shows that just 7% of people read the full terms when buying a product or service online, while a fifth say they have suffered from not doing so (Guardian). Personally, I’m one of those people that don’t bother reading it, and has yet to suffer from the consequences...but you know what they say: Karma’s a beach.

Now, I know it’s a pain to read that little box that has hundreds and hundreds and thousands of words, all written in font 10, and it’s just frustatring. But, clicking the ‘I have read and agreed to the terms of....’ is just like signing a contract when you're at an office. You could be selling your soul for all you know....well, maybe not your soul, but you know what I mean. Those tiny-hard-to-read-words will explain everything that happens when you agree to the terms, and what will happen if something were to happen, or if someone were to copyright, they have laws and specific rules that resolve those issues, or that you could be charged extra fees. We wouldn't want that to happen, because as we all know, we love having extra money to spend, not to pay some extra fees that you never knew about.

Well, I hope you remember that when that box for 'I agree to the terms and stuff to..', most of the times, it could be REALLY important.

The Begining of internet privacy

Hello little ones.
I'm here to teach you all about Internet privacy. As you may or may not know, there are a lot of creepy people on the internet, and many of those people can be very harmful.
There are alot of them who try to steal your identity, your Facebook or Myspace page, try to impersonate you. There are a lot of people who try to hack you, and who try to steal very important information. These people can be your friends, pedophiles, rapist or even the government. These people  are dangerous and can try to harm you....well, maybe not your friends, they'll just try to change your status or send dumb messages to random people,  but you know what I mean.

There are several ways to protect oneself from Internet. Here are some steps.
1 - LIE! If you put your information in a website that you know you won’t use much, or that it isn’t necessary, you can lie about your information.
2 - FILL UP ONLY THE REQUIRED FIELDS. In unimportant web sites, there is no need to fill up unnecessary fields. Usually, its just your name, last name, birthday and email. Use your name, and for your birthday, change it up. So, instead of April 7, you can use April 8.
3 - AVOID CREDIT CARDS If there are sites that don’t need credit cards, don’t put it in. If you do need it, use a one shot credit card, or a prepaid one, so that your information isn’t taken by the company or other people.  
4 - INFORM OTHERS. If you can, try your best to inform others of not using their personal information. Inform your cousins, parents, friends, cats, dogs, turtles, EVERYONE!
